Chelsea fans outraged by the club's treatment of Chilwell: what happened.
According to The Sun: Chelsea fans expressed their outrage at the club's treatment of Ben Chilwell, the Champions League hero.
Fans are furious that Chilwell ended up in 'bombshell' alongside unnecessary players like Raheem Sterling, and then was sold to the sister club 'Strasbourg' without any proper recognition from Chelsea.
GettyAccording to SunSport, Sterling, Chilwell, and other excluded players like Axel Disasi, Carny Chukwueke, and Leslie Ugochukwu were forced to train in separate changing rooms and bathrooms, and were unable to have lunch with the team under Enzo Maresca.
In his emotional farewell video posted on social media, Chilwell stated:
“Of course, it’s not how I wanted to end my time here after such wonderful memories.”
In response to the official Chelsea Instagram account wishing him luck, some fans reacted angrily. One wrote:
“Shame on you for how you treated him in the end. He deserved so much more.”
Another fan added:
“Shameful. The best left-back in the world is treated like garbage for no reason!”
Among other comments were:
“The way the club let you down”, “You were treated so harshly” and “A terrible farewell from the club. He only got a post confirming his departure. Shocking.”
However, one fan expressed a different opinion, stating:
“Sometimes I don't understand some fans... You’re asking for a reboot, and the management is doing it, so what’s the problem?”
A warm farewell to Chilwell
Meanwhile, current Chelsea captain Reece James had a warm farewell with Chilwell: “Kuzya, we’ve been through so much together. We’ve won several trophies together, we've faced injuries together… both of us experienced the highs and lows of football.”
Reece James - the only remaining player from the team that won the Champions League
James added:
“It’s been a pleasure sharing the pitch with you all those years, so sad to see you go.”
Other Chelsea players like Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo also expressed their thoughts on the farewell. Mason Mount from Manchester United said:
“Not many are better than you, brother, both as a player and, more importantly, as a person. A true professional.”
Chilwell in his farewell video thanked the club for the opportunity to help them win trophies, including the Champions League. He also expressed gratitude to his teammates and fans for their support during tough times, especially when he was injured and when his father Wayne passed away in 2023.
He concluded with the words:
“Now it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life, to put efforts into another club and enjoy my football.”
This situation shows how important relationships between clubs and players are, as well as how fans follow the fate of their favorites. Chilwell's farewell resonated with fans who acknowledged his contribution to the team and condemned the club's treatment. It’s worth noting that similar conflicts between clubs and players can impact image and relations with fans in the future.
