London club sends Fofana to Turkey

According to The Sun: Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana has been loaned to Turkey as the club decided not to include him in their squad for this season.

The 22-year-old striker from Ivory Coast joined Chelsea for £10.5 million in 2023 but has only played four matches without scoring a goal.

Loan in Turkey and the circumstances

Last year in the Premier League, Fofana scored four goals while on loan at Burnley and also spent time at Union Berlin and Goztepe. Now he returns to Turkey, signing a one-year contract with Fatih Karagumruk.

This deal came just days after Fofana unexpectedly made it into Chelsea's squad for this season despite not having prospects in the main team.

Fofana trained in Cobham separately from the main squad along with other players like Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi. This trio witnessed the conditions presented to them that indicated their lack of future at the club.

After summer signings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, Fofana found himself even lower in the team's hierarchy.

“Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana has joined Turkish club Fatih Karagumruk S.K. on a year-long loan,” the club's statement said.
“The Ivorian international signed with Chelsea from Molde in January 2023 and made four appearances for the remainder of that season.”

“Following loans at Union Berlin and Burnley during the 2023/24 campaign, the 22-year-old striker spent last season at Goztepe, where he scored twice in nine matches.”

“We hope to support David during his time in Turkey. Good luck, David!”

Sending Fofana on loan demonstrates Chelsea's desire to find him new opportunities for career development. After several unsuccessful attempts to secure a first-team place, Turkey may offer him a chance to regain form and return to European top leagues in the future.

Additionally, it should be noted the club is actively utilizing loan agreements. This may indicate Chelsea's aim to optimize their squad by sending players who currently do not fit into their strategy.
