Reason for turning down the move to West Ham

According to The Sun: Chelsea defender Axel Disasi explained why he turned down a possible move to West Ham this summer.

The 27-year-old did not make the main squad after the arrival of coach Enzo Maresca from Leicester ahead of last season.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa under Unai Emery, as he did not fit into the plans of the coach in West London. It was expected that he would find a similar loan option this summer.

The Frenchman became part of Maresca's 'bombing team', alongside players such as Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, and Leslie Ugochukwu. Although many of them got their transfers, Disasi consciously rejected offers from West Ham and Bournemouth.

Emotional reason for rejection

In an interview with the French publication La Media Carre, Disasi shared the emotional reasons for his decision:

“In the period between the offers from Bournemouth and West Ham, an offer came from Monaco, and it really impressed me.”
“I spent three incredible years at Monaco. When they reached out, all the memories came flooding back. Monaco is my home.”

The footballer hoped Chelsea would find a solution that would allow him to go on loan and continued to seek opportunities until the last minute to move to Monaco.

Disasi also mentioned the recent transfer of his teammate Nicolas Jackson, who got the opportunity to play for the German club Bayern Munich.

Not all players deemed surplus at Chelsea were lucky with new clubs: Sterling has yet to find a new place and currently remains at Chelsea, separated from the main team, while Disasi also remained uncertain at the club.

Despite West Ham's inability to sign Disasi, the club did manage to sign Igor Julio from Brighton in the closing moments of the transfer window, despite reports that the Brazilian was undergoing a medical at Crystal Palace.

This situation highlights the instability of the transfer market, as clubs strive to find the best signing options while individual players remain in the shadows of their clubs.
