Cyclist Chris Froome suffers cardiac rupture in accident: details on his condition.
According to The Sun: Chris Froome sustained serious injuries during a cycling accident last week.
The cyclist was urgently evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in southern France.
PAAs a result of the accident, he suffered serious injuries: a collapsed lung, four broken ribs, and a vertebra fracture.
However, his wife Michelle reported that doctors also discovered a rupture of the pericardium – the sac surrounding the heart.
Michelle told The Times: “It was obviously much more serious than just broken bones. He is stable, but it will be a long recovery process. He won't be able to ride for some time. Chris is willing to share this, as people need to understand what is happening.”
Froome, a 40-year-old athlete, crashed near Toulon, France, while colliding with a curb and a road sign at speeds over 48 km/h.
He was taken to the military hospital Sainte-Anne in Toulon – the largest trauma center in the region.
Froome will need to undergo prolonged rehabilitation, and doctors must monitor for any long-term heart issues.
This cyclist, a four-time winner of the Tour de France, has previously recovered from a broken femur in an accident in 2019 and did not compete for nine months.
