The price of rapeseed is rising: why Ukrainian farmers are in no hurry to sell.
The situation in the rapeseed market in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: The price of rapeseed in Ukraine is slowly rising, reaching 545 dollars per ton. This increase is related to a decrease in rapeseed supplies from Ukraine, as well as low demand from local farmers. Despite the rise in rapeseed prices, the 2026 crop is currently estimated to be 30 dollars below the current value.
At the same time, companies that process rapeseed are lowering their demand prices to 24,000 hryvnias. This may indicate that processors are trying to adapt to market conditions and possibly reduce their raw material costs amid instability.
The impact of external factors on the market
In January 2023, a decrease in sunflower prices in Ukraine was also observed, which may affect the overall market for oilseeds.
Another important factor is the customs tariff on rapeseed exports to Europe, which stands at 1.8%. This restriction may affect the overall export volume and shape demand in the domestic market. In conditions where farmers are in no hurry to sell their stocks, the situation in the rapeseed market remains tense, and further developments will depend on changes in demand and supply in both domestic and foreign markets.
Optimistic forecasts regarding the new oilseed crop in Ukraine and expectations regarding the 2026 crop in the EU may influence price formation in the future. The assessment of excess transitional stocks in Canada may also become an important factor affecting the global rapeseed market.

The decrease in processing prices and the customs tariff on exports may lead to further fluctuations in demand and supply, which in turn will affect the overall state of the oilseed market. Farmers and processors must closely monitor changes in the market to adapt their strategies according to new conditions.
