Potato prices have dropped to 9 hryvnias: what caused the sharp decline in prices.
According to inkorr.com: Consumers in Ukraine can breathe a sigh of relief as potato prices have sharply declined and now range from 9 to 16 hryvnias per kilogram. As reported by East-fruit.com, prices fell due to a large harvest since the beginning of September this year.
Currently, retail prices for potatoes are at the level of 9-16 hryvnias per kilogram. This significant decrease is associated with the arrival of late-ripening potato varieties, which further influenced the price drop. In particular, wholesale prices decreased by 10% in just one week.
Analysts note changes in consumer preferences: buyers have become more selective about quality. If earlier small potatoes were sold effortlessly, now the demand for them is minimal.
At the end of September, prices slightly rose to 16 hryvnias per kilogram in supermarkets, which is related to transportation and storage costs. However, the main reason for low prices remains the increase in potato cultivation areas, which led to an oversupply of products.
Future forecasts
Experts believe that there will be no significant changes in potato prices in October. The wholesale price will remain in the range of 12-18 hryvnias, while the retail price category will be 20-26 hryvnias per kilogram.
It should be noted that earlier in Ukraine there was a sharp rise in food prices, and now the decline in potato prices is good news for consumers who can purchase the product at more acceptable prices. This may also indicate market stabilization amidst a high harvest.
