Increase in Prices for Uber and Bolt Rides
According to The Sun: The cost of rides on Uber and Bolt will rise due to the introduction of a new tax on minivans, initiated by Rachel Reeves. A 20% VAT will be charged on rides executed through ride-sharing services.
The "taximeter" will ensure revenue of about £700 million for the treasury by 2027-2028 and will add between £2 and £3 to the cost of a £12 ride.
This new tax, known as the "taximeter", aims to significantly replenish the state budget, and as a result of its introduction, users can expect an increase in the cost of their rides. Instead of the usual prices set before, additional expenses will be taken into account, which may urge some passengers to reconsider their habits of using these services.
