The 33-year-old British boxing idol suffered a unanimous defeat against Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov, who stands 6 feet 5 inches tall, on Saturday evening in front of 9,000 spectators in Sheffield.

Despite landing some solid left hooks, Allen was under constant pressure throughout all 12 rounds.

Several experts in the ring urged Allen to consider retirement, to avoid serious injuries in such a grueling profession.

After the fight, Allen reassured that he is not ready to leave boxing.

However, the next morning, the veteran acknowledged that his children, Betty and George, as well as the young boxers he trains, might help him decide if he should retire.

Allen's defining words

With blood and bruises after the bout, the hero of South Yorkshire said: “I’m ready to fight for the British title or for a third bout with Johnny Fisher.”

“Or maybe I’ll just travel the country with six or eight-round fights while I wait for a chance to compete for the title.”

“I think I’ll get back in the ring again — but maybe not. I have other things, I'm no longer just a boxer.”

This defeat was a heavy blow for Allen as significant opportunities were on the line had he defeated Makhmudov.

SunSport reported that former world champion Deontay Wilder was ready to meet Allen had he defeated the Russian.

Makhmudov's undefeated attribute

Makhmudov won the fight with scores of 115-111, 116-110, and 117-109 after a confident performance.

Allen refused to make excuses for the loss after significant blows taken in the ring.

“He is the biggest terrifying man I have ever seen, but he’s actually a good man.”
“I’m just not good enough, it’s simple. He was too big and too strong. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but I’ll be fine.”
“I was almost in tears because of the crowd, I had to hold back my emotions. I’m not done yet.”
“I’ve never felt punches like that before. He hit me five times, and my trainer wanted to pull me out. But I’m a tough guy, I’ve never been down.”
“I’m not done yet, I’m not the best, but these fans make me feel like the best.”
This news about Dave Allen highlights both the drama and tension of the royal sport. He faced a serious opponent in Makhmudov, sparking discussions about his future in boxing. Whether Allen will continue his career or choose a different path remains a key question he is not yet ready to answer definitively. Boxing for him is not just a job, but part of his identity, and this will undoubtedly influence his decisions in the coming days.
