Ukrainian City Councilor Detained While Accepting $10,000 Bribe, Now Under Suspicion.
Kyiv Councilor Faces Corruption Allegations
According to TSN.ua: A deputy of the Pochaiv City Council has been formally notified of suspicion for illegally taking money in exchange for assisting individuals eligible for military service. The councilor was apprehended while in the act of receiving a $10,000 bribe. Investigators state the suspect's services typically ranged in price from $4,000 to $10,000.
The investigation further revealed the deputy received an additional 77,000 hryvnias deposited to his personal bank card. His actions are being prosecuted under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. A court has currently ordered him to be held in custody, with bail set at 506,000 hryvnias.
Ongoing Investigation and Its Broader Impact
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Kyiv police, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office and with operational support from Ukraine's Security Service (SBU). The case is being processed in accordance with Article 208 of Ukraine's Criminal Procedure Code and Article 62 of the nation's Constitution.
This case forms part of Ukraine's wider, ongoing struggle against systemic corruption, a critical issue that has gained even greater urgency during wartime, when matters concerning military service assistance are particularly sensitive.
Such incidents of illicit fund acquisition risk severely undermining public trust in local government bodies and their elected officials. Ukraine's international partners closely monitor anti-corruption efforts as a key component of the country's democratic resilience.
