Who Will Replace Stepan Kubiv? Documents Submitted to Ukraine’s Central Election Commission to Terminate His Mandate.
How a New Member of Ukraine’s Parliament Will Be Registered
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has received the official paperwork to formally end the parliamentary term of Stepan Kubiv. The documents were submitted by the Verkhovna Rada’s administrative office following Kubiv’s death at age 64. Kubiv was elected as a people’s deputy on July 21, 2019, representing the European Solidarity party in the nationwide multi-mandate constituency. Under established rules, his potential successor, Denys Piatyhorets, must file his own application with the CEC no later than 20 days after the commission publishes its decision to vacate the seat. The CEC is then required to issue a ruling within five days of receiving those documents, ensuring a strictly timed transition process.
Why Following Procedure Matters
The loss of Stepan Kubiv is a significant blow to his party and the voters who supported him. The upcoming registration process is critical to maintaining uninterrupted representation in parliament. It also highlights the importance of adhering to legal procedures when a seat becomes vacant early, a step that can directly affect the country’s political landscape. This case underscores how Ukraine’s electoral system handles such transitions to preserve legislative continuity.
