"Different opinions": Scholz said whether peace talks with Russia are possible without Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected the idea of peace talks with Russia without the participation of Ukraine. He made this statement after the informal EU summit in Budapest on November 8.
According to Scholz, a joint resolution with Ukraine is necessary to end the conflict. He emphasized that there can be no peace talks without the involvement of the country fighting against Russian aggression.
The German Chancellor also noted that various opinions were expressed on this issue at the summit, particularly by Viktor Orban from Hungary. He also emphasized that supporting Ukraine is a priority for many EU countries.
"Ukraine has become a victim of an attack. It made the decision to become a member of the European Union and stand up for the values of democracy and the rule of law," said Scholz.
Earlier, the German Chancellor also stated that NATO must be strong enough that no country would dare to act aggressively against it.
