eBay Expands Authenticity Guarantee for Designer Clothing and Footwear.
eBay Changes the Approach to Clothing Listings
According to The Sun: eBay has implemented important changes to its clothing listing program that will benefit buyers. The well-known resale site has announced the expansion of its authenticity guarantee program.
eBay Rolls Out a New Authenticity Guarantee ProgramThis program helps confirm the authenticity of designer and branded items, ensuring they match the description.
The authenticity guarantee currently covers expensive items such as luxury watches, bags, sneakers, and jewelry. Now, the service is expanding to luxury clothing, footwear, and accessories.
When selling items in these categories, the product is sent to the eBay authentication center in the UK, where specialists verify it. If the item passes inspection, it is sent to the buyer with tracking options and a unique authentication card with a QR code.
This service is free, with no additional fees. The process is automatically carried out when purchasing items in one of these categories.
To use this service, the item must meet certain price criteria:
- Sneakers from selected brands priced at £100+
- Watches from selected brands priced at £1,500+
- Bags and Accessories from selected luxury brands
- Jewelry from selected brands priced at £500+
- Clothing, Footwear, and Accessories from selected brands priced at £200+
Feedback from eBay's Executive on the Innovations
Kirsty Keoghan, the General Manager of European Fashion at eBay, noted that the expansion of the program provides buyers with 'authenticity.'
“Expanding Authenticity Guarantee to clothing gives people the confidence to buy the styles they love, from staples to statement pieces, knowing every item has been verified by experts.”
“With whole-look authentication now possible, our goal is to make pre-loved fashion a natural first choice.”
These changes come just a few days after eBay announced expedited payment for sellers. Now, some sellers can receive payment within 24 hours instead of the previous two days.
Sellers who have made at least 10 sales totaling £150 or more in the last five years and have had no more than two unresolved issues in the last 12 months can get paid within 24 hours of the sale.
How eBay's Authenticity Guarantee Program Works
When you buy a designer item, such as a bag, the seller sends the item to eBay's authenticator.
The item is checked for packaging, accessories, and description accuracy. After verification, your item receives a card with a QR code that contains detailed information and is sent to you via fast, trackable, and secure delivery.
Competitor Vinted offers a similar service, but it is optional and costs £10. Items that are subject to verification must be priced over £85, and it applies only to specific brands in clothing, bags, accessories, jewelry, and footwear. After verification, the item is sent to the buyer within one to two business days.
The implementation of the authenticity guarantee program demonstrates eBay's commitment to increasing trust among its buyers and creating a higher quality shopping experience. This innovation may change user behavior, encouraging them to choose pre-owned items with greater confidence. In a world where issues of ecology and sustainability are becoming increasingly important, programs that support responsible consumption deserve attention and support.
