The explosion occurred as the boat was leaving the marina in Fuengirola.

Video footage shows smoke rising from the motorboat, which was trying to leave the harbor.

Firefighters attempted to extinguish the flames engulfing the boat from the nearest shore.

Locals on jet skis and other boats rushed to help trapped passengers and attempted to put out the fire.

It is unclear if British citizens were among the injured.

The alarm was raised at 12:20 on Saturday when several witnesses reported black smoke rising into the air.

The fire was visible from nearby beaches.

The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined.

A local fisherman told reporters: “It was an open boat made of polyester, which is a very bad combination with fuel as it burns very quickly.”

Due to the fire, the boat sank.

The area where the boat sank has been cordoned off by emergency services for investigation.

The spokesperson for the Fuengirola city hall stated: “The Rescue and Salvage Service, the Fire Brigade, and the Local Police… as well as the Civil Guard responded today to the fire on the boat that was floating in the marina close to the port entrance.”

“For reasons still unclear, an explosion occurred, and the boat caught fire,” he added.

“Within minutes, rescuers from the Rescue Service reached the crew and ensured their safety.”

According to the spokesperson, at the time of the explosion, there were eight people on board the boat.

“All sustained injuries, three of them seriously, and they were handed over to medical personnel,” the spokesperson noted.

“Officials from the Andalusian Port Agency are closely monitoring the situation to assess the need for precautionary measures.”

This fire occurred just a year after four Britons were rescued from a luxury yacht explosion near Menorca.

Photos show the fire engulfing the 40-foot boat when the blaze broke out in the engine room.

Onlookers at the dock attempted to douse the flames with powerful streams of water as a huge plume of black smoke rose into the air near Mahon Island.

Initially, emergency services planned to tow the 40-foot boat to the port so firefighters could more effectively extinguish the fire.

However, it was ultimately decided to take the boat further out to sea to reduce the risk of explosion before it sank.

Four British tourists were rescued and taken ashore on a boat belonging to the yacht club in Mahon harbor.

Given the circumstances, emergency services demonstrated professionalism in responding to the emergency. The incident raised concerns among tourists and locals, highlighting the need for reliable safety measures on the water. Authorities continue to investigate the causes of the explosion to ensure safety in the future.
