Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspected the damaged cooling tower at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which was affected by a fire. The cause has not yet been determined.

The experts visited the station's cooling towers to examine the consequences of the fire. In their opinion, the fire likely originated in the inner part of the tower at a height of 10 meters.

The occupiers did not allow the IAEA team access to the cooling tower's cold water pool. During the visit, burned areas were noticed, and fragments of concrete and plastic that had fallen into the pool were found. Samples of melted plastic were collected for further study. In the absence of a sulfur smell, it is believed that the fire was caused by plastic.

Tires and drones were not observed at the fire site. There are also no signs of debris damage near the cooling tower. Around the cooling towers, which are about 1.5 km from the reactors, there are no radioactive substances.

The IAEA team is not yet making any definitive conclusions about the cause of the fire and promises to continue the analysis after further inspection and access to the cold water pool.
