Severe winters in Ukraine are disappearing: what to expect next year.
Climate change: less snowfall and frost in Ukraine
According to inkorr.com: Extremely cold winters with severe frosts and heavy snowfall in Ukraine are becoming increasingly rare.
About this told in an interview with RBK-Ukraine senior researcher of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute and researcher at the National Antarctic Scientific Center Anastasia Chyhareva.
'Trends show that outbreaks of cold air will become weaker and rarer, accordingly, extreme snow, extreme frosts do not threaten Ukraine. They are possible, but their frequency and intensity will decrease,' - explained the scientist.
'The likelihood of severe frost cases is decreasing because the planet is generally warming,' - emphasized Chyhareva.
The scientist noted that global warming directly affects winter climatic conditions in Ukraine. The duration of the winter period with frosts is decreasing, and its onset occurs closer to January than December. The meteorological winter is shortened and ends in March.
Anastasia Chyhareva provided an example of a warm winter in Ukraine when the USA experienced severe frosts and snowfalls. Such significant changes are related to the movement of warm air masses to the north, where the polar cyclone usually resides.
The scientist also confirmed that 2024 will go down in Ukraine's history as the warmest, which serves as confirmation of the general trend towards climate warming.
These observations indicate a significant decrease in extreme snowfall and frosts in Ukraine, as well as the emergence of warmer winters and sharp changes in meteorological conditions. Such factors may have a significant impact on the climate future of the country, which will require adaptation to new conditions.
Considering the current climate challenges, Ukraine needs to find effective solutions for adapting to changes. It is important to continue scientific research and implement strategies that will help preserve ecosystems and adapt to new climate realities.
