Electronic cigarettes also harm others.
200 thousand people die due to the impact of tobacco smoke at work
According to the World Health Organization, annually 200 thousand people die due to the impact of tobacco smoke at work.
The Center for Public Health reported that about 700 million children inhale air polluted by tobacco smoke, and electronic smoking devices are also dangerous for the environment.
Risks for passive smokers
People who smoke passively have a 25-30% higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and respiratory illnesses, particularly ischemic heart disease and lung cancer.
Similar to regular cigarettes, electronic smoking devices produce side aerosols that the smoker exhales into the environment.
These aerosols contain acetaldehydes, formaldehydes, volatile organic compounds, nicotine, and heavy metals, which have a toxic impact on human health. Aerosols from electronic devices contain more nickel and chromium compared to aerosols from regular cigarettes.
Legislative norms on smoking
The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection reminded about the legislative norms on smoking, according to which smoking and the use of tobacco products are prohibited in various places:
- in elevators and payphones;
- in healthcare institutions, educational institutions, sports facilities, and others;
- in establishments of the restaurant business, cultural objects, state institutions, and others;
- in enterprises, hotels, dormitories, and others;
- on playgrounds, in residential buildings, underground passages, public transport, and other places;
Negative impact of tobacco smoke
Smoking any tobacco products harms the body regardless of the dose. Tobacco smoke contains over 7 thousand chemical elements, of which at least 250 are toxic, and 69 cause cancer.
The Ministry of Health reported that tuberculosis can develop in individuals with harmful habits, particularly smoking.
