According to The Sun: Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah may switch nationality to play for Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations.

This 26-year-old player has only made one appearance for the England national team, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Australia in October 2023.

Since then, Nketiah has not made the England squad.

The player, born in Lewisham, London, can represent the Black Stars due to his parents. According to FIFA rules, he has the option to change his sports citizenship, as he has not played in any official matches for England and has less than three caps.

Previously, Nketiah declined invites from Ghana; however, Ghanaian football journalist Saddick Adams noted that he is now willing to consider it.

“Nketiah is settled now, he’s 26 years old, he is mature enough and ready to ‘give everything’ if Ghana calls him now.”
“He says there is Ghanaian blood flowing in him, so his ‘identity is not in doubt.’”

It is known that he is open to the possibility of playing for Ghana. Moreover, there has been recent information that Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi could also join the Ghana national team, as he has only three caps for England.

Ghana's Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams expressed a desire to convince Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi to join the team for the Africa Cup of Nations and next year's World Cup.

In an interview on Ghanaian radio station Asempa FM, he stated: “Every Ghanaian who can play has the opportunity to get on the World Cup if the coach decides to invite them.”

“It does not matter whether the player was part of the team during the qualifiers or played earlier or not.”
“Perhaps they’ve been looking for others, but we won’t discriminate on the day whether a player played during the qualifiers or not.”

“I’ve seen some players, and I believe they are good enough.”

“Despite their talent, the final selection of players, such as Eddie Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi, rests with the technical team and the coach.”

Nketiah joined Crystal Palace from Arsenal for £30 million last year, but he is currently struggling to score goals, even though his team won the FA Cup last season. He scored the winning goal in the 97th minute against Premier League champions Liverpool in his first match of the new season.

Africa Cup of Nations matches are gaining popularity, and the likelihood that Nketiah decides to change his nationality could significantly impact the Ghana team. These changes open new horizons for both the player and the national team.
