Salt made 141 not out, consuming only 60 balls, while Jos Buttler added 83 from 30, leading to numerous records at Old Trafford.

England won the match by 146 runs, leveling the series 1-1 after South Africa's rain-affected victory in Cardiff.

Salt set a new record for English players in T20, reaching the century in 39 balls, breaking the previous record held by Liam Livingstone at 42 balls.

He has four out of eight T20 centuries recorded by English players, the highest number.

England started the match with an impressive 100-0 after six overs and reached 166-1 after ten overs, marking the best figures in history.

The balls were flying in all directions, and the list of records was rapidly growing.

England scored 18 sixes and 30 fours, bringing them an impressive 228 runs just for boundaries.

The power and quality of the English batting were impressive, however, their successes were made possible by subpar bowling from South Africa.

Bowler Lizaad Williams conceded 62 runs in three overs, and star bowler Kagiso Rabada gave away 70 runs in four overs, including four no-balls.

Salt said: “I honestly never thought I would play a game where we'd score 300 runs. I've played in some IPL matches where we've posted over 270. It’s a massive achievement.”
Captain Harry Brook admitted he “lost for words” and added: “With our bowling lineup, there aren’t many heights we can’t reach.”

Salt could have missed out if Ben Duckett and Jamie Smith hadn't been ruled out due to fatigue.

He opened the innings smashing balls from the very first three, finishing his first over with a six off left-arm bowler Marco Jansen.

Following this, Buttler focused on the batting and quickly reached his fifty off 18 balls - the third fastest for England.

He looked set for three figures until he was dismissed at long-on.

Salt continued his scoring, and England surpassed their previous T20 record of 267-3 against the West Indies, as well as the Test record of 297-6 set by India against Bangladesh.

Only two higher overall scores in international T20s, and the countries of failure are Gambia and Mongolia.

South Africa reached 50 runs in the fourth over in response, looking set for success. However, a series of lost wickets stalled their progress.

South Africa's coach Shukri Conrad admitted: “It was terrible bowling. We lacked ideas, lost our discipline, and became one-dimensional.”
PA England has made a historic step in the world of T20, surpassing all expectations and setting new records. This victory not only highlighted their trend towards an aggressive style of play, but also called into question the South African team's approaches to bowling. The outcome of international matches always generates great interest, and new records only intensify competitiveness in the world of cricket.
