EU Delivers Heavy Machinery and Equipment to Ukraine’s Railways: What Was Received.
European Union Support for Ukrainian Railways
According to Novyny.live: In a move to help keep trains running amid wartime disruptions, the European Union has supplied Ukraine’s state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, with energy equipment and technical assistance. High Representative Kaja Kallas announced the delivery on March 31. The aid package, valued at 1,400 euros, includes dump trucks, excavators, trucks, trailers, and generators.
Kallas described the situation facing Ukraine’s rail network as critical, noting that attacks on railway infrastructure are intensifying.
“We know that attacks on your railway infrastructure are only increasing,”she emphasized. Her remarks highlight the urgent need to both sustain and modernize Ukraine’s rail system under the pressures of war.
Oleksandr Pertsovskyi also commented on the initiative, stressing the symbolic importance of focusing not just on survival and reconstruction, but on progress.
“It is very symbolic that today we are talking not only about rebuilding and just surviving. This support is also about development,”he said. The assistance represents a crucial step in strengthening Ukraine’s transport infrastructure, which endured over a thousand attacks last year alone.
This EU aid marks an important milestone in keeping Ukraine’s railway system operational during active hostilities. Beyond repairing damaged infrastructure, the equipment will support the long-term modernization of rail transport. The delivery also underscores the international community’s commitment to helping Ukraine maintain stable transportation links during a period of immense strain.
