Defense and Security: New Survey Identifies Main Priority for Most Europeans.
According to inkorr.com: According to a recent Eurobarometer survey, the primary priority for most Europeans in strengthening the global influence of the EU is defense and security (37%). This issue significantly outpaces other criteria, such as competitiveness, economy, and industry (32%) and energy independence, resources, and infrastructure (27%).
Priorities in EU Countries
Defense and security have become the main priorities in most EU countries, particularly in France, Germany, and Poland. In contrast, in Italy and Greece, the most pressing issues are competitiveness, economy, and industry.
In other states, such as Slovenia, Slovakia, and Romania, the focus is on food security and agriculture. In Sweden and Malta, the key topics are democracy and human rights.
"The image of the EU has also improved, with more than half of respondents (52%) expressing a positive attitude towards the Union, which is 2% higher than in the previous survey, marking the third instance in the last two decades," experts noted.
Overall, 73% of respondents believe that EU membership has benefited their countries. The most positive attitudes towards membership are observed in Denmark, Ireland, and Malta, while in Austria, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic, it is less popular. The main benefits identified by respondents are peace and security (37%) and improved cooperation between member states (36%).
Unity in Addressing Global Issues
Moreover, 90% of Europeans believe that EU member countries should cooperate in addressing global problems, and 68% emphasize the need to strengthen the role of the European Union in protecting citizens from global crises.
The Eurobarometer survey shows that for most Europeans, defense and security are the most important priorities for the EU. This reflects a growing focus on security and the necessity of cooperation to strengthen global influence. Respondents also exhibit a positive attitude towards the EU and recognize the usefulness of membership for their countries, underscoring support for European integration among citizens of Europe.
