EU Commissioner Urges Member States to Unlock Weapons Stockpiles for Ukraine, Proposes €90 Billion Loan.
Call to Bolster Ukraine’s Defenses
According to UATV: Andrius Kubilius, the European Commissioner for Defense and Space, has called on European Union nations to open up their military arsenals to Ukraine. This plea comes as Europe ramps up its own arms production, which Kubilius argues is essential to strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. He further noted that Ukraine could purchase European-made weaponry using a €90 billion credit line.
Kubilius emphasized that 'fortifying Ukraine remains a key factor for Europe’s security.'
He added that 'EU countries are lagging behind Russia and Ukraine in missile production rates.' These remarks highlight the urgent need to accelerate military manufacturing across Europe to support Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
Finland’s Backing and EU Integration Efforts
In a related development, Finland has expressed support for opening all negotiation clusters in Ukraine’s EU accession talks, a move that could deepen security cooperation between Kyiv and Brussels.
Kubilius’s statements underscore the critical importance of EU military aid to Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. The expansion of European arms production and the proposed €90 billion loan mechanism reflect Europe’s determination to enhance Ukraine’s defense capacity and ensure regional stability. Finland’s endorsement of Ukraine’s EU membership negotiations may also prove pivotal in strengthening ties between Ukraine and the European Union, potentially influencing strategic stability in the region.
