Ukraine's Proposals to End the War

According to UATV: Ukraine has put forward proposals to bring the war to a close and is open to a direct meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has made it clear that Kyiv is prepared for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, as Russian strikes continue to target Kyiv, Turkey is actively pursuing diplomatic channels to revive peace negotiations. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that Ankara stands ready to host talks between the two sides.

Diplomatic Efforts and Peace Principles

As part of these initiatives, Fidan has already traveled to Kyiv for discussions on restarting dialogue. A key development in the peace process came with the presentation of five principles to the European Union, which could serve as a foundation for achieving peace. These principles include:

  • Non-recognition of borders altered by force;
  • Full integration of Ukraine into Europe;
  • Accountability for aggression;
  • A policy of long-term deterrence;
  • Normalization of relations with Russia only if its behavior changes.

Against the backdrop of these diplomatic efforts, U.S. President Donald Trump has weighed in on ending the war, expressing confidence that a peaceful resolution could be reached by January 2029. This statement has bolstered hopes that the conflict might be resolved in the near future. However, as Andrius Kubilius noted, normalizing ties with Russia will only be possible once the country returns to a rational state of affairs.

Amid ongoing hostilities and attacks that, in Hakan Fidan's words, 'do not bring peace closer,' Ukraine and its international partners must find effective paths to a stable and lasting peace. Given these developments, calls to halt the war are growing louder.

Donald Trump: 'Vladimir, it's time for you to stop. It's time to put an end to this war.'

This situation underscores the critical role of international diplomacy in resolving the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Turkey's diplomatic push and the statements from world leaders reflect a growing global interest in achieving peace. Yet, tangible outcomes will only materialize if both sides are willing to compromise and if Russia alters its behavior. Given the complexity of the situation, future negotiations could prove decisive for regional stability.
