European Commission approved 90 billion euros for Ukraine: two-thirds will go to the military.
Loan from the European Commission for Ukraine
According to UATV: The European Commission has approved a loan of 90 billion euros for Ukraine. Of this amount, two-thirds, or 60 billion euros, will be directed towards military support, while one-third, 30 billion euros, will be allocated for budgetary support. This decision was made on January 14.
According to Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, the situation with the Russian Federation remains tense, as
"Russia shows no signs of calming down, remorse, or any desire for peace."This underscores the importance of military support for Ukraine. Payments on the loan are expected to begin in early Q2 2026.
Strategic approach of the European Union
Ursula von der Leyen also noted that
"One-third, 30 billion euros, will be allocated for budgetary support, while two-thirds, 60 billion euros, will be for military support."Thus, the European Commission continues to actively support Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
This decision of the European Commission indicates the long-term support for Ukraine from the European Union, despite the ongoing military aggression from Russia. A significant portion of the loan allocated for military support underscores the EU's strategic approach to ensuring security in the region. Budgetary support is also crucial in the context of stabilizing Ukraine's economy, which has suffered significant losses due to the war.
