The EU is preparing mandatory security guarantees for Ukraine: what exactly the allies promise.
According to ТСН: European countries commit to providing "politically and legally binding" guarantees to protect Ukraine from a possible armed attack by the Russian Federation.
This information is contained in the draft statement of the "coalition of the willing," which was reviewed by Reuters.
"These obligations may include the use of military capabilities, intelligence and logistical support, diplomatic initiatives, and the imposition of additional sanctions,"- it is stated in the document.
Moreover, it is indicated that the statement is to be presented at today's summit at the Élysée Palace and still requires approval.
Meeting in Paris
Today, a meeting of the "coalition of the willing" started in France, which will involve Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Overall, more than 30 high-ranking officials from different countries will join the event. The US will be represented by members of former President Donald Trump's administration – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
It is known that the new head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov, arrived in Paris with Zelensky. The President outlined the main goals of the trip, emphasizing the importance of obtaining real security guarantees.
However, The Independent reports that the prospects for progress after this meeting remain unclear. The Biden administration and Trump are currently focused on other issues, including the situation around Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
The meeting in Paris may become an important step in strengthening international support for Ukraine, especially against the backdrop of ongoing aggression from Russia. It is expected that the results of this conference will influence the further actions of the participating countries in ensuring the security of Ukraine and the region as a whole.
