Erik ten Hag: Bayer Leverkusen may dismiss coach after just two matches.
Erik ten Hag on the verge of dismissal at Bayer 04
According to The Sun: Erik ten Hag could soon leave his position at Bayer 04 Leverkusen after just two matches in the Bundesliga.
The former Manchester United coach has only gained one point in his first two games in Germany.
APLeverkusen lost their debut match 1-2 at home against Hoffenheim and then failed to maintain a 3-1 lead in their game against Werder, finishing the match in a 3-3 draw.
According to Kicker in Germany, ten Hag has found himself on the verge of dismissal, and the club has refused to publicly support him.
Ten Hag took over the team, replacing Xavi Alonso, who previously successfully managed Leverkusen. Alonso led the club to an unbeaten double in 2024 and reached the Europa League final, where the team lost to Italian Atalanta.
After that, he secured the team a second place finish last season before returning to Madrid to take up a coaching role.
Ten Hag led Ajax to three consecutive Dutch league titles and took over Manchester United in 2022, replacing Ralph Rangnick, who temporarily took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Despite winning the FA Cup just five months before his exclusion in October 2024, ten Hag left the club while the team was in 14th place, having only won four of their first 14 matches of the season.
Meanwhile, Amorim remained in his position this summer, despite his club finishing in 15th place – the worst in Premier League history.
Ten Hag joined Leverkusen in May after a seven-month break from football. His team currently sits in 12th place in the table. Under pressure, the 55-year-old coach noted:
“The players are not ready. We have a new team, and some of the players are not ready physically at all. The team did not function in the final stages of the game.”
“It’s just how it is. They need to raise the intensity and improve their fitness to meet my standards.”
The situation around ten Hag and Leverkusen continues to remain tense. Losing another match could be decisive, as a club with high ambitions cannot afford a prolonged failure. The question remains whether the coach can find a way out of this crisis to bring the team back to success. Fans are waiting for positive changes, as their support is needed now more than ever.
