Charges and first hearing
In the video, Coote expressing his thoughts referred to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as “an impressive German”, and made critical comments about the club.
“Besides the fact that he attacked me when I was officiating their match against Burnley during the lockdown, he accused me of lying,” Coote said.
“I am not interested in talking to someone who is so conceited. I try not to engage with him.”
The 43-year-old Coote will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday for the first hearing of his case.
Category A charges concern the most serious classification of indecent images or videos showing penetrative sexual activity.
Coote, who hails from Nottingham, officiated his first Premier League match in April 2018. This year it became known that he was spotted in a video delivering packages for the company Evri.
This incident prompted discussions about ethical standards in sports and the responsibility referees bear for their actions both on and off the field. The issue of reputation and trust in officiating has become increasingly relevant as society demands high standards of conduct from sports officials.
