According to The Sun: Jack Wilshere, former Arsenal player, is the main candidate for the position of head coach at Luton.

The player has been unemployed since his retirement from Norwich last summer.

Wilshere started working as the first team coach at Norwich in October 2024 and later took on the head coach duties after the dismissal of Johannes Hoffa Torupa, achieving one victory and one draw in the last two matches of the season.

Now, at the age of 33, he is Luton’s priority for the vacant position after Matt Bloomfield's retirement, according to information from BBC.

Luton's team has some issues in the Championship, as they have suffered five defeats in the first 11 matches after experiencing two consecutive relegations to lower leagues.

Reports indicate that Luton considered Ritchie Wellens, the Leyton Orient coach, before currently opting for Wilshere. After ending his playing career in 2022, he managed Arsenal’s U18 youth team for over two years.

Wilshere led the youth team to the FA Youth Cup final in 2023, where they lost to West Ham.

This team included Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, who later made their first-team debuts.

Wilshere played 34 games for the English national team and played 197 games for Arsenal. He also had loan spells at Bolton and Bournemouth and signed with West Ham in 2018. After that, he returned to Bournemouth and ended his career at AGF in Denmark.

During his career, he was managed by renowned coaches such as Arsène Wenger, Fabio Capello, and Eddie Howe, but was forced to end his career at 30 due to injuries.

The choice of Jack Wilshere as Luton’s coach indicates that the club is trying to find a new leader to guide the team out of crisis and back to successful performances. His previous professional experience and knowledge of modern football could be the key to success in the new position. Given his coaching work with the youth team as well as prior experiences, Luton hopes Wilshere can help the team find the right course for restoration.
