Career and family support
Hoult spent 20 years in professional football, playing for clubs in all four leagues of England. His brightest period was at Derby in the mid and late 90s, where he played 138 matches and became a key figure in the team that returned to the Premier League in 1996.
In 2002, the goalkeeper returned to the Premier League with West Bromwich, where he played over 70 matches in three seasons. Hoult ended his career in 2013 after playing for several clubs.
In September 2023, he was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, and in August 2024, the family learned of stage four bile duct cancer.
"We were told that both diseases are incurable, and Dad is currently receiving palliative care — this is incredibly hard for our family to accept," noted Hoult's daughter, Kaylee, on the fundraising page.
"Our dad means everything to us. His strength, courage, and sense of humor have never faded, even in the face of such immense difficulties."
Kaylee and her twin brother Carter plan to participate in the Leicester half marathon on October 26 to raise money for AMMF - a charity focused on bile duct cancer research.
So far, they have received over 230 donations, raising a total of £4,970.
