According to The Sun: Major competitions on New Year's in Exeter were cancelled at the last moment. The southern track was deemed unsuitable for competitions due to a sharp drop in temperature.
An inspection that took place shortly before 10 AM did not pass. An official message appeared two hours before the scheduled start of the first race, which was supposed to begin at 12:35 PM. A total of seven races were planned.
