FA Cup match abandoned due to racist abuse
According to The Sun: The Football Association (FA) issued a statement after the second round qualifying match of the FA Cup was halted on Saturday.
The game between Sporting Khalsa and Hereford was interrupted in the 67th minute due to reports of racist abuse directed at a player.
GettyBoth clubs' statements indicated that the insults were aimed at Sporting Khalsa goalkeeper Ravan Constable.
An FA representative expressed concern and noted:
“We are deeply concerned about claims of discrimination from spectators during the match between Sporting Khalsa FC and Hereford FC.”
“The match was stopped again, and the next steps regarding this fixture will be confirmed later.”
“Incidents of this nature will not be tolerated in our game, and we will work alongside referees, clubs, and relevant authorities to establish the facts and take appropriate action.”
Sporting Khalsa also released its own statement condemning such actions:
“Racism and discrimination have no place in football. Sporting Khalsa prides itself on our diversity and the community we represent – we will not let hate divide us or our game.”
The Hereford club's statement also emphasized:
“As a club, we will not tolerate any discriminatory behavior.”
According to local reports, goalkeeper Constable confronted an individual accused of racist abuse in the crowd. Following this, the referee decided to stop the match, and the managers of both teams took their players off the field.
Hereford president Paul Caddis called the incident
“shameful”and urged serious action against the culprit:
“An absolute disgrace. This is unacceptable in society and unacceptable in football clubs.”
Caddis also noted:
“We are people first and foremost. I don’t understand how people in society think they can come and not adhere to the rules.”
Discussing the decision to stop the game, he remarked:
“My argument is let’s make a decisive step now. This happens far too often.”
At this moment, it is still unknown what measures will be taken regarding the rescheduling of the match.
