Hanna Kaldas receives a five-year ban: reason - refusal to undergo gender test.
Hanna Kaldas leaves swimming due to a five-year ban
According to The Sun: Veteran swimmer Hanna Kaldas has decided to leave the sport after being imposed a five-year ban for refusing to undergo a gender verification test. World Aquatics has suspended her activities until 2030 and annulled the results of competitions she achieved over the past three years, as she declined an 'invasive' and 'expensive' genetic test to determine her biological sex.
“I can't cope with this. It's not just about sport, it's about my identity,” she said.
Kaldas, who is 48 years old, became a winner in her age category, but recent events have forced her to quit swimming for good. This situation has sparked significant discussion in the sports community as it raises questions about gender identity and athletes' rights. During the end of her career, Kaldas also emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting her identity in sports.
