Increase in council tax in 2026
According to The Sun: Millions of households in many local authorities may face a rise in council tax of more than 5% in April 2026. While councils have the right to raise rates by a maximum of 5%, six local authorities have been granted permission to increase charges even higher. This could lead to an additional cost of £182 a year for those already facing financial difficulties.
“These tax increases could jeopardize the well-being of many families who are already struggling with the cost of living,” experts noted.
Currently, local authorities are exploring various options for funding their assets and improving conditions for residents. This issue is becoming increasingly urgent amid rising living costs and financial challenges faced by many families.
