This coin is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the famous game Monopoly.

The game has become popular since 1935, and millions of people around the world enjoy the classic process of real estate trading.

The coin features the inscription '90 years of Monopoly', along with classic game elements: tokens, property cards, and Mr. Monopoly.

The design uses lenticular technology, allowing the coin to 'change' depending on the viewing angle. This means the 'GO' sign transforms into the well-known 'M' symbol as the angle changes.

The coin is already available on the Royal Mint's website, with a starting price of £15 for the Brilliant Uncirculated version.

Other versions of the coin made from silver and gold are also available.

Collectors often seek rare and special coins to enhance their collections.

The rarer the coin, the greater the interest it generates among collectors.

To celebrate the release of the Monopoly coin, a limited edition advent calendar this year is planned to contain a particularly valuable coin.

In the last issue, there will be a solid gold coin worth £1,730 hidden, giving one lucky person the chance to find gold before Christmas.

Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coins at the Royal Mint, said: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to honor this iconic game, which has united families for nine decades.”

The History of Monopoly

Monopoly was first created by Lizzie Magie in the early decades of the 1900s.

Initially, the game was called 'The Landlord's Game' and was inspired by the economic theories of Henry George.

The game was officially presented in 1935 and has since become a classic.

Monopoly is now the most widespread 'currency' in the world, with over 275 million games sold.

Approximately one billion people have played this game, which has been translated into 47 languages.

How to Identify a Rare Coin

A coin is typically considered rare if it has been issued in limited quantities or if errors occurred during its production.

For example, 50 pence coins from 'Kew Gardens' are valuable as only 210,000 copies were minted.

There is also the 'Atlantic Salmon' with a mintage of 200,000 coins that entered circulation in 2023.

A coin is deemed 'error' if something went wrong during its production, and it was incorrectly minted.

Such coins are rare and hold significant value. For example, the HG Wells error coin worth £2 sells for up to £1,000.

Bronze 20 pence coins can sell for up to £750, while error £1 coins can reach into the thousands.
