Bayer fired ten Hag after two matches: five reasons for the decision

According to The Sun: Erik ten Hag left the position of coach at Bayer Leverkusen after just two matches for a number of serious reasons.

The former Manchester United manager failed to achieve a single victory in the first two Bundesliga matches.

Ten Hag's resignation came as a surprise to many, as some fans believed the Dutchman did not receive enough time to work properly after Javi Alonso's departure.

Leverkusen said goodbye to several star players, such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremy Frimpong, and Piero Hincapié, who are now performing in the Premier League.

The club management believes that ten Hag received a team with less qualified players. However, within the club, he was already being called 'the worst coach in the club's history.'

BIZARRE APPROACH

According to Bild, there are five main reasons why ten Hag was fired so quickly. In particular, his daily earnings amounted to £86,000, with a salary of £5.2 million and compensation.

Firstly, it is claimed that ten Hag failed to establish a rapport with both players and staff, even with those who had worked with him since July.

He declined to give 'motivational' speeches before his first match against Hoffenheim, which ended in a 2-1 defeat.

Therefore, many of his staff and players began to doubt his obscure decisions, which diminished the importance of the match.

Moreover, the coach was accused of 'interfering' in Leverkusen's transfer processes, as he only proposed players from his agency.

Ten Hag openly forbade the transfer of Granit Xhaka to Sunderland, but he moved there just a few days later. PA

Among other controversial decisions, he publicly opposed Granit Xhaka's move to Sunderland, despite internal approvals.

However, Leverkusen management went against ten Hag and approved Xhaka's transfer just a few days after his opposition.

TRAINING PAIN

The third reason for ten Hag's departure was his demands for push-ups during training, which he considered equivalent to ball exercises.

Players were accustomed to tactics and technical skills under Alonso's guidance, and now training with ten Hag had become exhausting and monotonous.

NO CONNECTION

The fourth reason was the 'cold' atmosphere in the club due to the lack of ten Hag's leadership, which led to a significant disconnect during training and matches.

Staff, including coaches, nutritionists, and physiotherapists, began to feel dissatisfied with the situation.

TACTICAL DISASTERCLASS

Finally, the most glaring evidence of his failure occurred on the field. Leverkusen lost their first match against Hoffenheim, and then failed to maintain a two-goal lead in the match against Werder, which ended in a draw.

Players were confused by the lack of clear gameplay and overall strategy – it was obvious.

Leverkusen is now seeking a new candidate for the coaching position, with former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou mentioned among possible options, as well as other specialists from the Bundesliga.

The situation at Bayer Leverkusen remains tense following ten Hag's unexpected dismissal. The club is trying to quickly find a new coach to get the team back on track. Changes in leadership could significantly impact the club's future performances and plans in the current season.
