Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather announce a fight: what boxers can do at the age of 107.
Watching great boxers
According to The Sun: Boxing fans are once again becoming victims of attempts to sell them nostalgia: Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather decided to fight each other.
The combined age of both boxers is 107 years, they already have grandchildren, and their total earnings are approaching 1.5 billion pounds sterling. 48-year-old Mayweather and 59-year-old Tyson want to take advantage of their rich history in the sport.
ReutersBoth boxers heading into the ring have earned every penny promised to them by the organizers CSI/Fight Sports, although the date and location of the fight have yet to be confirmed.
After different, but no less harsh childhoods, these men rose from poverty to incredible wealth.
So it seems somewhat dubious that they are now trying to fool boxing fans by attempting to turn back time.
Mayweather was simply brilliant when he played against a young Canelo Alvarez in 2013, and all the titles and millions the Mexican boxer has earned since only highlight this undeniable victory.
It is worth noting that Mayweather's last fight took place in 2007 against our working hero Ricky Hatton.
Tyson's last half-confident victory was probably in the fight against Frans Botha in 1999, when he showcased his eccentricity in the ring.
In 2020, Tyson was probably no longer in his prime, appearing in a show against Roy Jones Jr.
8 rounds of 2 minutes with boxing gloves were dubbed 'The Lockdown Drop', although better titles could have been 'Entertainment Vaccination' or 'A Title No One Cares About'.
It is occasionally noted that last year the newly minted YouTube boxer Jake Paul made Tyson leave his hospital bed for another big-money show.
At the weigh-in, Paul shouted: 'he has to die!' and made an obscene gesture.
This event also dragged on until the end, leaving no significant blows.
Conclusions and Observations
When these shows with influential figures were just gaining popularity, their organizers tried to attract traditional boxing fans, assuring that this format would draw a new generation to the sport.
But it turned out to be a myth that quickly unravelled: an increasing number of porn stars, controversial jokers, and MMA flops created unpleasant scenes in the ring, turning events into tedious spectacles.
So let’s wish these 'grandfathers' another opportunity to earn some money. They have gone through many trials, faced the blows of fate, and especially Tyson has encountered great personal losses, which have been reflected in the eyes of the whole world.
But when an disrespectful journalist or blogger tries to make you part with your hard-earned money for this boxing 'victory', try to remind them of real boxing, which can be watched for free.
Unfortunately, many of these celebrity events are not real fights; we hope the participants stay safe, fans realize there are better ways to spend their money, and organizers and broadcasters get the responses they deserve for their failures.
