Fan dies who changed his name to Manchester United: the story of a Bulgarian.
Manchester United fan dies
According to The Sun: 62-year-old Manchester United football club fan Marin Zdravkov Lavidzhov, known for his passion for the team, has died. The Bulgarian, who closely followed the 'Red Devils' for a long time, changed his name to Mr. Manchester United and even had a tattoo of the club on his head. His obsession began after the club's famous victory in the Champions League in 1999.
In 2014, he was able to legally change his name to Mr. United, a process he worked on for 15 years.
His home in Bulgaria was filled with club memorabilia – posters, shirts, and banners of his favorite players, including Dimitar Berbatov.
The idea to change his name came to him during a hangover after the club's victory over Bayern in the Champions League final. His struggle for this name became the subject of a Bulgarian film in 2011 titled 'My Friend Manchester United.'
After completing the legal procedures, he brought his idea to life by tattooing the club's logo on his forehead. In 2014, The Sun made his dream come true by arranging a visit to Old Trafford, where he received a private tour of the stadium and the opportunity to watch a match of his team.
After the tour, he said through a translator:
“I can't thank The Sun enough for making my dream come true. Seeing where my idols walked and played is the best thing I have ever experienced.”
Unfortunately, Lavidzhov's beloved team drew against Sunderland, and in 2017 he visited Manchester again during a fast-paced season to meet the players.
After his death, information about the famous fan became less accessible, but his unique passion for the club will remain in the memory of many. The legacy of Marin Zdravkov Lavidzhov shows how knowledge and love for a sports team can shape our lives.
