On the show 'The Overlap', which is broadcast in partnership with Sky Bet, Jill admitted:
“It was for 'The League of Their Own', and I had to play a scene in a bar, it was very hard, a real Manchester accent.”
She added:
“I just had to say 'I’m here for bar work'. It was so bad, I don’t know why, but it was just awful. It really is in one of the episodes.”
Jill enthusiastically prepared her character:
“I loved it so much. You walk in and can create your character. I was a bit of a mess, thought I looked like a mess.”
In the scene, Jill tried to get a job at the 'Rovers Return' bar, but quickly ran away, grabbing a kebab. She recalled:
“Then Chesney came in – you know, Chesney, who works at the kebab shop – and basically, I stole a kebab. Then I had to act surprised and run away. It was so much fun.”
Jill noted that it took her three takes to film this scene, and although the pub looked genuine, she wasn't sure if the beer was real. She recalled:
“It was like a pump, but I don’t know if it was real beer. I think it was just apple juice.”
Being a longtime fan of 'Coronation Street', Jill was thrilled to meet the actors, especially Roy Cropper. She shared:
“I love 'Coronation Street', it’s so iconic. I even met my favorite – Roy. Roy Cropper from 'Roy’s Rolls'. I was running down the cobbles, looking for all the actors. I think I’m going to get a restraining order soon.”id='6376282182112' data-video-id='6376282182112' data-account='5067014667001' data-player='default' data-usage='cms:WordPress:6.5.6:2.8.6:javascript' data-embed='default' class='video-js' data-application-id='' controls style='width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; top: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0; left: 0;'>
Jill's show partner, Jamie Redknapp, also showcased great improvisation. She noted:
“Jamie did it really well. He was really cool and improvised.”
Jill Scott had an impressive career at 'Sunderland', 'Everton', 'Manchester City', 'Aston Villa', and also played 161 matches for England.
By appearing in 'Coronation Street', Jill demonstrated that sports stars can impress audiences not only on the field but also on screen. Her experience proves that dreams can come true in the most unexpected forms, offering a new dimension even to recognized athletes.
