Ex-Fulham player Abdessalam Ouaddou involved in car accident: details of the crash in South Africa.
According to The Sun: Former star defender of the English Premier League, Abdessalam Ouaddou, was involved in a horrific car accident while trying to assist victims of another accident.
The Moroccan played for Fulham for four seasons, appearing in 28 matches.
AFPOuaddou moved to the French club Rennes in 2005, having previously played for Valenciennes and Nancy, and also had experience playing in Greece and Qatar.
Since June of this year, he has been the head coach of the Orange Pirates team.
Car Accident
The 46-year-old coach was hit by a pickup truck on Sunday while trying to assist victims of another accident as he was returning from a match.
Ouaddou was urgently transported to the hospital along with five other team members.
The club confirmed:
“The Orlando Pirates football club confirms that head coach Abdessalam Ouaddou and five club employees were involved in a car accident on Sunday evening.“The accident occurred on the R21 highway as the team was returning from Gqeberha after a solid 3–0 victory over Chippa United.
“Seeing the collision between two cars, Coach Ouaddou and several staff members exited the bus to assist the victims.A tragedy occurred when a Nissan NP200 crashed into the stopped vehicles, resulting in serious injuries to team members. Getty
Ouaddou played for Fulham from 2001 to 2005.
“Coach Ouaddou and five team members were urgently transported to the hospital, where they are receiving medical assistance.The club is in constant contact with medical personnel and will provide updates on their recovery.
“Our priority right now is the health and well-being of our colleagues. The club is making every effort to provide the necessary support to the victims and their families during this difficult time.We request respect for all those involved in these events, as they focus on recovery. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.”
Recently promoted to the Premier League, Fulham paid Nancy 2 million pounds for Ouaddou in 2001.
However, he never felt at home in West London and, after two years, moved to Rennes on loan, later signing a permanent contract with the club in 2005.
Overall, the defender made 58 appearances for the Morocco national team, scoring three goals.
