According to The Sun: Former Premier League star Odsonne Edouard intends to leave the French national team to pursue glory at the World Cup with Haiti, sources report.

The 27-year-old Edouard recently signed with Ligue 1 club Lens, moving for £3 million from Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day.

However, the forward is preparing for a significant turn in his career by changing his national allegiance.

Edouard came through France's youth team, scoring 17 goals in 14 under-21 matches, but did not get the opportunity to play for the senior team.

With the upcoming World Cup this summer, Edouard has decided to change his sporting allegiance from 'Les Bleus' to Haiti.

“Edouard has given his full consent to this change ahead of a potential call-up for the qualifiers in October,” noted journalist Caleb Jeft Pierre.

Haiti is participating in Group C of the final stage of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers against Honduras, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua.

The team, coached by Gabriel Calderon Pellegrino, drew their first two group games against Honduras and Costa Rica, who, remember, reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup.

Haiti has only one experience of participating in World Cup finals in 1974.

But with players like Jean-Rickner Bellegarde from Wolverhampton, the team hopes to rewrite its story.

Edouard is also showing interest in this, as he was born in Kourou, French Guiana, but his parents are of Haitian descent, which facilitates the transition process.

Currently, Haiti ranks 90th in the FIFA international ranking for men's national teams.

With the expansion of the World Cup from 32 to 48 teams, which will take place in three countries - the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Haiti has a better chance of reaching the finals and leaving its mark in history.

Edouard's integration, having scored 18 goals in the Premier League over four full seasons, will certainly boost the team's chances.

This move gives Edouard a chance to showcase himself on the international stage and become an important part of the Haiti national team, which is trying to return to world football. With prospects of participation in the upcoming World Cup, the Haiti team looks forward to his contribution and hopes for better results.
