Hundreds of households can expect a refund from the TV license if they no longer need to pay the annual fee of £174.50, according to recent data from the BBC. There are seven main ways for households wishing to receive a refund, depending on their circumstances.
Do not watch television live or on the iPlayer platformA refund may be issued if the television equipment at the address is no longer used to watch live television or BBC iPlayer. This includes recording or downloading programs.
Moved to an address already covered by a licenseMoney may be refunded if the license holder moves to an address that is already covered by another valid license.
Incorrectly purchased a licenseA refund is available if the license was incorrectly purchased, for example, when a license already existed for the property.

Compensation for blind discount arrearsOwners who are blind may pay half the contribution and receive refunds for overpayments if the license was not applied at the time of purchase.
