Mondelez reduces packaging of Wispa and Crunchie: what consumers are buying now.
Changes in chocolate bar packaging
According to The Sun: The packaging of Wispa bars now contains only seven pieces instead of nine, but their price has remained unchanged.
New packages still cost about £3, which actually increases the cost of each bar by nearly 10 pence.
Wispa packaging has been reduced from nine bars to seven - but the price has remained unchanged Similar changes apply to Crunchie packagingSimilar changes also apply to Crunchie packaging.
This move followed a reduction in the number of bars in the packaging of Fudge, Freddo, Dairy Milk Little Bars, Brunch, and Curly Wurly that occurred this year.
One chocolate fan noted: “Shrinkflation is getting worse.”
Another commentator expressed their opinion about Wispas: “I won't buy again on principle. It was a good value package with nine bars.”
Brand owner Cadbury, Mondelez International, explained that changes in product sizes have become “a last resort” for the business.
They noted: “We are experiencing significantly higher costs throughout our supply chain, with ingredients such as cocoa and dairy costing considerably more than before.”
It was also pointed out that “Other costs like energy and transportation remain high.”
“This means our products still cost significantly more to produce, and although we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face significant challenges.”
Suzanna Striter, a representative of investment firm Hargreaves Lansdown, highlighted: “It has been a difficult time for Mondelez, with a sharp drop in stocks after forecasts that concerns over the economy would affect sales in the US.”
She noted that the company should focus on selling more cost-effective products, but investors seem to have a pessimistic outlook.
