The former 'Three Lions' player, who has made 57 appearances for the national team, will earn around £50,000 for his work on the microphone.

This came after Southgate hinted that his next job could be outside of football.

A source stated: “BBC is pleased to have been able to invite Gareth for his first hosting role. This is a true achievement.

“He will be interviewing successful people from various fields, moving away from sports to major inspiring stories.”

The source also added: “The series is being created for BBC Sounds, but will be recorded on video and, if all goes well, may appear on television.”

The only one who achieved more was World Cup winner Sir Alf Ramsey.

This month he expressed that he is in no rush to return to management.

When asked about this, he replied: “You should never rule anything out… but I am not looking for it.”

“I am enjoying my life. I have plenty of things to do.”

“I am in the process of writing a book and have several business interests.”

BBC refused to comment on whether Sir Gareth has been appointed to the new show, but it has significantly invested in podcasts.

Wayne Rooney’s show, featuring the former England star, launched this month.

After the World Cup, England won in Spain for the first time in 31 years, achieving a stunning victory in the Nations League.

Going into the Euro 2024 semi-final, many doubted Southgate’s team, but they responded with a thrilling performance.

Xavi Simons opened the scoring for the Dutch, but Harry Kane's penalty leveled the score. Ollie Watkins scored the winner in extra time.

This was perhaps the best possible competition for the Three Lions. However, it did not go well when three players missed their penalties.

This was a humiliating defeat for Southgate in the Nations League — the largest home loss since 1928.

England 1-2 France, World Cup quarter-final 2022
