Trump and His Lies: How Statements About Ukraine, Greenland, and Venezuela Endanger the World.
According to ТСН: Greenland, Venezuela, and Ukraine are united by a common theme — Donald Trump and his disinformation.
An international policy observer notes that, according to Washington Post data from 2021, Trump made 30,573 "false or misleading" statements during his first term. This averages out to 21 lies per day, and he continues to misinform both Americans and the international community.
This is particularly evident in three currently unresolved international crises: the struggle for Greenland's resources, the situation in Venezuela, and the war in Ukraine.
“Last week, Trump stated that the only limitation to his power is his 'own morality and his own mind'. This explains a lot. His notions of right and wrong are entirely subjective. He is his own ethical and legal advisor, his own priest and confessor. Trump lies to himself, as he does to everyone else. And the damage that results is profound. It costs lives, undermines democracy, and destroys trust among nations,” writes Simon Tisdall.
The expert believes that U.S. voters and foreign leaders have become accustomed to Trump's constant lying. However, the cost of this indulgence is growing, as his behavior becomes increasingly authoritarian and unpredictable.
Greenland
Trump falsely claims that Chinese and Russian military ships are 'everywhere' in Greenland, and he believes this justifies the U.S. taking over the island.
“Hey! What ships?” asks Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who is aware of the situation in Greenland, the observer notes.
Denmark is investing significant resources into developing Greenland, so it appears that Trump is seeking to seize its natural resources to bolster the American economy.
Polls show that Greenlanders oppose the annexation or sale of their country to Trump, preferring independence instead.
Venezuela
“A real stream of lies preceded the coup d'état in Venezuela over the past weekend. Trump baselessly claimed that the country’s leader, Nicolas Maduro, is the head of a 'narcoterrorist' cartel. His administration killed more than 100 people on boats in the Caribbean and the Pacific based on unfounded suspicions of drug trafficking. He falsely declared the U.S. to be at war, illegally usurping Congress's constitutional powers,” Simon Tisdall laments.
According to the expert, the main goal of the coup in Venezuela is not to restore democracy, but to control oil. Trump shamelessly and ruthlessly tries to plunder the country, threatening Mexico, Cuba, and Colombia.
Trump hints at an intention to manage Venezuela indefinitely. This creates a dangerous situation, as the country could descend into chaos due to the actions of the armed forces and Maduro's repressive regime.
Ukraine
The expert emphasizes that “Trump’s inability to distinguish good from evil, to differentiate truth from lies causes immense harm in Ukraine.”
Trump promised to end the war with Russia in 24 hours, but his attempts have proven unsuccessful. He has repeatedly promised to be tough with Putin, yet Putin continues aggression, and Trump typically seeks blame in Zelensky himself.
These crises in Greenland, Venezuela, and Ukraine highlight not only Trump’s dishonesty. They also point to the weakness and discrepancies among European leaders and the EU. Tisdall urges Europe to recognize that they cannot trust Trump and rely on him.
“Disregard for international law, ignoring sovereign rights and territorial independence, as well as the constant replacement of the UN-supported rules-based order with neo-imperial spheres of influence are evident in all three countries. So too is the failure to protect citizens' democratic rights. The U.S. arrogantly and unlawfully excluded elections in Venezuela. Russia is trying to destroy democracy in Ukraine. Greenlanders want to determine their future independently. But who is listening to them?” Simon Tisdall concluded.
Furthermore, earlier media reports indicated that Trump allegedly ordered the development of an invasion plan for Greenland.
This situation reflects the complex international relations of the present, where disinformation and political ambitions can significantly impact stability in the world. Analyzing Trump’s actions in three different countries underscores the importance of transparency and accountability of leaders on the international stage, which can influence global processes and regional security.
