The head of Konotop, attacked by Russia, named three cities that came to help.

On the night of September 12, Russian invaders attacked the center of Konotop, located in the Sumy region. The city is now in a difficult situation, as it lacks funds for restoration after the shelling. Kyiv, as well as the cities of Stryi and Romny in the Sumy region, came to help. This was stated by the mayor of Konotop, Artem Semenikhin, in an interview for "Glavkom".

According to the mayor, more than 300 windows in hospitals, schools, kindergartens, and boiler houses were damaged. He currently has no means to restore them. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, called personally and promised to provide help in the form of fuel for Konotop. He also thanked the mayors of Stryi and Romny who are providing assistance. As for the fuel from Kyiv, the mayor does not know the exact volume that will be provided.

In recent months, the enemy has become more active in the Sumy direction, especially after the start of the AFU operation in Kursk. However, there is no mass evacuation from Konotop at present. According to the mayor, only a few people are leaving. About 60 thousand people live in the city.

The mayor does not call on people to evacuate from Konotop and claims that the situation in the city is different from that in other areas of hostilities. The distance from Konotop to the front line is 65 kilometers.

No grounds for an enemy offensive

According to the mayor, there are currently no grounds to expect a Russian offensive in the Sumy region.

On September 12, Russian occupiers organized an attack using kamikaze drones on Konotop. The next day, as a result of the shelling, one person died from their injuries.

A mandatory evacuation has been introduced in the Sumy region from Hlukhiv, Svesa, and Esman in the Shostka district.

According to former Deputy Chief of the General Staff Ihor Romanenko, Russian troops were building up forces for an offensive in the Sumy region, but the AFU struck first and attacked the Kursk region of Russia.
