Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi Details Military Strategy: Active Defense and Regaining Territory.
The Frontline Situation
According to UATV: Ukraine's armed forces are continuing to implement a strategy of active defense to hold their lines and regain control of territory. On February 26, 2023, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized that the primary objectives are preserving the lives of Ukrainian soldiers and inflicting maximum losses on the enemy. This approach is a key component of Ukraine's broader military doctrine in the face of a larger invading force.
Oleksandr Syrskyi: 'We continue to execute our active defense tactics. Our mission is to maintain our defensive positions and protect the lives of our soldiers, while simultaneously working to restore control over Ukrainian territories and inflict the heaviest possible losses on the enemy—losses that must continue to outpace their ability to replenish their forces.'
On the Kramatorsk axis, Ukrainian forces maintain control of Mayske and Markovo. Concurrently, Russian occupation troops have intensified their efforts to encircle Pokrovsk. In response, the Ukrainian military is actively conducting aerial reconnaissance and laying additional mines to fortify their positions. The situation remains tense, but Ukrainian units continue to carry out their assigned missions under increasing military pressure.
The Active Defense Strategy
Given the current circumstances, the active defense strategy of the Ukrainian military aims not only to preserve territorial lines but also to degrade the capabilities of Russian forces for future offensive actions. Aerial reconnaissance and mining operations are critical elements that allow Ukrainian troops to strengthen their positions in key areas like the Kramatorsk axis. As the conflict intensifies, such measures are expected to have a significant impact on the course of combat operations in the region.
