Kharkiv Mayor Terekhov Urges Government Action on Public Sector Wages and Business Aid.
Key Priorities for Local and National Government
According to Novyny.live: During the 'Forum of Heads of the Unbreakable Kharkiv Region,' Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov outlined urgent priorities for both local and national authorities. The forum highlighted critical issues, with Terekhov emphasizing the need for funding, business support, and the integration of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Terekhov, who also heads the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities, called for government subsidies to fund salary increases for public sector workers.
"We need a decision today on a targeted subsidy to raise wages," stated Ihor Terekhov. The mayor believes this step is crucial to support public sector employees amidst the current difficult economic climate, which has been severely impacted by the ongoing war.
Support for Small Business and IDP Integration
He also noted that the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities successfully lobbied to delay any increase in the tax burden on small businesses for this budget year.
"Life in frontline territories today depends on small business," Terekhov said.He added that Kharkiv has abolished all local taxes and fees for small businesses, a measure aimed at supporting entrepreneurs during these challenging times.
Terekhov stressed the importance of integrating IDPs, stating they require "housing, jobs, and social support." He called this a "strategic task today" and urged a collective effort, saying, "This is our shared responsibility." These appeals come as Ukrainian cities near the front line bear a disproportionate economic and social burden.
The forum thus defined vital priorities for local and national government, focused on supporting the economy, small businesses, and integrating displaced persons amid war and social instability. These initiatives could significantly impact the stabilization of the socio-economic situation in the region, especially where small businesses in frontline areas are a key element of community survival. It is essential that these proposals gain state-level support to secure the necessary resources for implementing the outlined plans.
