Dollar exchange rate in August 2025: when is the best time to buy currency according to expert forecasts.
Doctor of Economic Sciences Alexey Plotnikov provided this expert commentary for the Novyny.LIVE editorial team.
Dollar exchange rate forecast for August 2025
On Friday, August 8, the official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the dollar was 41.45 UAH/USD. After the opening of trading in the interbank market, this figure dropped by 7 kopecks to 41.38 UAH/USD. The expert explained this decline by low demand for currency.
Currently, the market situation is almost balanced. August is always characterized by weak demand for dollars and active exports of agricultural products, making the currency more accessible.
“From the perspective of internal factors, I do not see circumstances that could cause a sharp increase in the dollar in August. Regarding external factors, it makes sense to wait for the results of possible negotiations between Trump and Putin, possible agreements on a partial ceasefire, etc.,” said the expert.
If the issue of a ceasefire is resolved, the currency market may respond positively. The national currency may strengthen due to improved sentiments among foreign investors who will want to invest in Ukraine.
The best time to buy dollars
An analysis of the cash dollar exchange rate shows a certain regularity in fluctuations. Research on the dynamics of the dollar's value in exchange offices has revealed specific days of the week when the currency rises or falls in price. Familiarizing oneself with this trend can save you during currency exchange.
The maximum dollar rates were recorded in July 2025 on the following days:
- July 8 (Tuesday);
- July 17 (Thursday);
- July 24 (Thursday);
- July 30 (Wednesday).
The decline in rates occurred on July 11, 18, and 25, which fall on Fridays. Another trend is that dollars tend to be cheaper on Mondays. Thus, the most profitable time to buy dollars is at the end of the week and to sell them from Tuesday to Thursday. This will allow you to save during the exchange, especially with significant amounts.
Interesting facts about dollars and hryvnias
It is important to remember that dollars issued before 1914 cannot be sold as they are not legal tender. Also, no one will accept counterfeit or seriously damaged foreign banknotes, so it's worth getting rid of them.
In the first half of 2025, the hryvnia significantly weakened against the euro, which may lead to rising prices for goods and services. The dollar exchange rate remains stable, but its appreciation is likely.
