British champion Ellie Scotney withdraws from the fight for the absolute championship: what happened.
Ellie Scotney withdraws from the title fight
According to The Sun: British world champion Ellie Scotney is missing an important fight for the title of absolute world champion on the undercard of Jake Paul.
The Londoner was set to meet Mayeli Flores on November 14, where all four super-bantamweight titles were at stake. However, Scotney, who is the unified champion according to the WBC, IBF, and WBO, withdrew from the bout due to an injury sustained during training.
The fight is planned to be rescheduled, as Scotney aims to become the youngest British athlete to compete for the absolute title at just 27 years old.
Jake Paul, aged 28, headlines the Netflix card in a match against lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, who is 30 years old, despite the five stone weight difference.
Replacing Scotney on the fight card will be undisputed bantamweight champion Cherneka Johnson.
Johnson, who lost to Scotney in 2023, will face Canadian athlete Amanda Galle.
“I am excited about the opportunity to step back into the ring by the end of the year! I haven't been so active in the ring for a long time, and I love it. I can't wait to be part of the big fight between Jake Paul and Tank Davis, show the improvements we've been working on, and take my belts home,” Johnson said.
“Even with a short notice, it will be a relentless fight with both fighters ready to make a statement and go to war on November 14. We wish Ellie Scotney a speedy recovery and hope to support her comeback as she continues her mission for the absolute title,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
