British households will receive up to £300 in support: how to get the money.
According to The Sun: Households facing rising bills can receive up to £300 in financial support, but they need to act quickly.
The Household Support Fund (HSF), with a total of £742 million, has been extended again, and the last phase will run until March 2026.
GettyThe fund supports households in England by distributing funds to councils, which can provide cash assistance to needy residents.
In Kingston upon Thames, households can receive a one-off grant of £300 to help cover daily expenses, including food shopping, energy bills, or water supply.
It is not necessary to receive social benefits to apply. If you receive Universal Credit, you may still qualify, but individuals with low income who do not receive benefits can also take advantage of the assistance.
Applications opened at 9:00 AM on September 1, with only 80 spots available for the month. This operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is worth acting quickly.
The scheme restarts on the first working day of each month until March 2026.
It is important to remember one rule: if you have already received a payment, you will not be able to reapply next month.
The Kingston Council only provides one-off payments as part of this round of the HSF program.
What if I don't live in Kingston?
Not only Kingston residents can receive assistance. Support is available in various regions of the country.
In Bromsgrove and Redditch, residents can receive up to £350, in East Sussex – a payment of £195, and in Cornwall – £140 for needy families.
The fund was created to help people with low income or in vulnerable situations, and all payments are directly transferred to applicants' bank accounts.
Some councils have already opened applications.
However, if you received assistance in the last round of the HSF (October 2024 – March 2025), your next opportunity to apply is September 15, 2025, if funds remain.
The scheme officially closes on March 31, 2026, but funding may run out earlier due to high demand.

What is the Household Support Fund
Sun Savers editor Lana Clements explains what you need to know about the Household Support Fund.
If you are struggling to pay energy and water bills, groceries, or other essential goods and services, the Household Support Fund can be a vital lifeline.
This financial support is a little-known way for needy families to receive additional help with living costs.
Every council in England received a share of £421 million in cash from the government to distribute to local households with low income.
Each local authority decides how to deliver this support. Some offer vouchers, while others make direct cash payments.
In many cases, the value of the support can amount to hundreds of pounds for individual families.
Just as assistance varies between councils, so do the criteria for receiving it.
Many councils provide assistance to households based on selected preferences or may focus on household income levels.
The key is to contact your local authority to find out what support is available.
Do not delay, as the scheme has been extended to April 2025, but your council may distribute its share of the Household Support Fund before that date.
If funds run out, you may find that you will not have the opportunity to receive additional assistance, so it is important to apply as soon as possible.
