St Helens overcame a crisis: how one conversation changed the course of the season.
Problems and discussions within the team
According to The Sun: Mark Percival is convinced that 'St Helens' understand that conversations are not always free, especially when they come from the players themselves.
An honest conversation that took place recently helped the team change the course of the season.
Mark Percival explained how a conversation helped 'St Helens' in a season when the team is trying to win the Super League title SWPIX.COMThree months ago, head coach Paul Wellens faced criticism when the team could not find its game.
But after nine wins in the last 11 matches, 'St Helens' is back in the fight for a top 3 spot, and a victory over 'Wigan' will open up the possibility for second place.
Percival believes that it was after the honest dialogue that the situation began to improve. He said:
“About 12 weeks ago we sat down at the table – I think it happened after the game against 'Warrington', and we talked.”
“I’ve been at this club for 12 years, and there haven’t been such conversations in a long time. It wasn't pleasant; many honest things were said then.
“But I think it truly became a turning point for us. Since then, everyone has agreed on what we want to achieve.”
“Everyone knows 'St Helens' as a club – we play hard, but also smart. We lost that a bit. We were trying to beat teams hoping it would happen by itself.”
“We wished everything to be easier, but over the last 12 weeks we have realized how hard it actually is.”

Anticipation before the derby
The match between 'St Helens' and 'Wigan' is always intense, and this one will be no exception.
The selection for the England team against Australia adds even more incentive, especially for the centers.
Besides Percival, 'St Helens' is represented by Harry Robertson, while 'Wigan' has Jake Ward. Percival acknowledges that one of the positions is already taken if Herbie Farnworth is in shape.
He added:
“There are a lot of good players in my position. Harry, Jake, and I are on the field today.”
“I know what I’m capable of, but guys like Herbie and Jake are really great players. No one will bypass Herbie; he’s probably the best center in the world.”

“I hope he will be in shape for the benefit of England.”
“Harry is fantastic, and he keeps me on my toes, as the incoming players are physically prepared, strong, and excellent.”
“Every club goes through a period of adaptation. A few years ago, we had a lot of success, but you lose players who earned all of that.
“Now we are trying to rebuild the team again, and in the coming years, with the young guys we have, we can return to that, as they have the abilities.”
The 'St Helens' team has shown good form in recent matches and it seems that honest discussions have become the spark that elevated them to a new level. Ahead of the derby against 'Wigan', the players feel confident, hoping to continue their successful streak. Conversations about selection for the England team are also providing additional motivation, which has boosted the team's sporting spirit.
